Six people were injured Wednesday night when a transit bus collided with a pickup truck and struck a light pole in Lakewood, authorities said.

The Long Beach Transit bus was en route to downtown Long Beach from Bellflower when the accident happened about 6:10 p.m. at Woodruff Avenue and Centralia Street, said city transit spokesman Kevin Lee.

All four passengers on board were taken to the hospital with injuries, Lee said.

The driver of the bus was trapped in the wreckage for nearly two hours before Los Angeles County firefighters were able to rescue him, Lee said. The driver, whose name was not released, was also taken to a hospital.

The driver of the pickup was also injured, but emergency personnel treated him at the scene, according to fire department dispatcher Miguel Ornelas.
