Two men who were out walking were killed this weekend in separate shootings just a few blocks apart in the San Fernando Valley, police said Monday.

Jose Zeron, 37, was walking home about 4 a.m. Saturday in the 15500 block of Nordhoff Street when he was gunned down, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

A dark, four-door vehicle pulled up next to Zeron and another man, and the vehicle slowed to a near-stop, police said. The driver, who wore a dark hooded sweatshirt, fired two gunshots, police said.

Zeron was taken to Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills, where he was pronounced dead, according to Lt. Larry Dietz of the Los Angeles County coroner’s office.

Shortly after 3 a.m. Sunday, about three blocks south of the previous shooting, a 46-year-old man was found dead on a front porch from a shooting.

Samuel Cuevas was walking eastbound on Chase Street near Orion Avenue in North Hills and passed by a group of four men and a woman drinking near an apartment complex.

Cuevas and the group “exchanged words,” then the group ran after him on Chase Street, then north on Langdon Avenue, police said.

In a driveway, one member of the group opened fire, killing Cuevas. The group fled the shooting scene, heading west on Chase Street in a black Lincoln town car.
