Pedestrian killed by vehicle on 101 Freeway in downtown L.A.

A 34-year-old pedestrian was killed Saturday after he was struck by a vehicle on the 101 Freeway in downtown Los Angeles, authorities said.

California Highway Patrol officers and paramedics responded to the northbound side of the freeway near Alameda Street about 6:30 p.m. after a caller reported a “pedestrian down in the roadway,” according to the CHP.

Few details were available about the incident, pending the ongoing investigation, but the CHP said investigators had determined the man was struck by a 1998 Mercury traveling northbound. The 72-year-old driver and a 36-year-old passenger were not hurt, authorities said.

The name of the victim has not been released.
