A man’s body was found inside a Cypress home that was set ablaze early Saturday during a police standoff, authorities said.

Officers were dispatched to the 11000 block of Panay Street in the Orange County community about 6:50 a.m. after receiving calls about a man with a large knife running through a neighborhood park, said Sgt. Dean Pinvidic of the Cypress Police Department.

Officers saw the suspect cross the street into a resident’s yard, he said. Police surrounded the house and later noticed a broken window through which the suspect was believed to have gotten inside.

A short time later the house was set on fire, Pinvidic said. Once the blaze was extinguished by firefighters, the body of an unidentified male adult was found inside.

The residents of the house were not home at the time, Pinvidic said.
