Following pleasant weekend weather, Los Angeles residents should expect warmer temperatures on Monday that will heat up downtown and valley areas across the region.

Temperatures will hit the 80s in downtown and 90s in the valleys, which National Weather Service meteorologist Dave Bruno said is 10 to 15 degrees above normal.

The heat wave is due to a mild high-pressure system centered over Nevada, combined with weak off-shore flow. Bruno said “there will be heightened fire danger” due to the weather conditions, “but it doesn’t look like a red flag warning will be justified.”

Temperatures will begin to drop Tuesday, and by mid-week, the forecast calls for highs in the 70s in the valleys.
