Readers React: Tears of joy over same-sex weddings in Nevada

Share

To the editor: Tears of joy, shock and wonder puddled in my eyes as I finished reading the article about the rush of gay weddings in Vegas. (“In Vegas wedding chapels, a red carpet for gay couples,” Oct. 10)

The stories of these couples reflect the lives of gay couples all across this county. At 59, I am still shocked that this freedom has finally come for most of us in this country; it’s a miracle I never thought would happen in my lifetime.

I am saddened only by the fact that my parents didn’t get to live to see me marry my partner of 12 years in April, but I rejoice knowing that my cousin who’s been with his partner for more than 20 years gets to plan his own wedding in North Carolina in time for his parents to share the day with him.

Love is love, and the naysayers ought to just deal with it. I am so happy to finally see all of us step out from under the cloud of inequality.
