To the editor: In this election cycle, both ultra-liberals like Bernie Sanders and hypocrites like Donald Trump lash out against the “Wall Street Elite,” alleging it is against small business and American workers. (Re “Trump trashes globalization,” Business, June 29)

A course in modern economics disproves that. There is no denying that many banking and investment company executives’ earnings are obscenely high, and deserve scorn. However, without the money- accruing and investment-disbursing agency of the stock market and banks, most businesses would not be able to function, and workers’ earnings would be much lower.

Stock market investments underwrite the creation and expansion of businesses from start up high-tech to mom and pop firms that need bank loans to buy inventories and pay their employees.

As a life-long liberal Democrat, I know the American capitalistic system needs Wall Street in addition to free trade and decent wages for all workers.

To the editor: Trump, born with a silver spoon in his mouth, has made millions of dollars taking advantage of existing trade laws. He is responsible for tens of thousands of manufacturing jobs being exported to other countries that now make most of his products overseas. This man has no decency.
