Spicy fig loaf

Heat the oven to 350 degrees. In a large bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, baking powder and soda, salt, cinnamon and ginger. Stir in the pecans, figs and oats. Stir in the milk and oil until incorporated.

Pour the mixture into a greased 9-by-5-inch loaf dish. Bake until puffed and golden and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean, about 1 hour. Cool on a rack until just warm before slicing.
