Chicago Cubs 8, Dodgers 1

AT THE PLATE: The Dodgers’ lone run came in the ninth inning, when Juan Uribe doubled to center field to score Elian Herrera. The hit was the second of two for Uribe, who isn’t a lock to make the opening-day roster even though he is still owed $8 million. Uribe is batting .240 this spring.

ON THE MOUND: Chris Capuano was charged with five runs and six hits in 41/3 innings. “I had a little trouble with the fastball command early in the game today,” Capuano said. He said he felt his command improve as the game progressed. Capuano pitched a perfect fourth inning and retired the only batter he faced in the fifth.

EXTRA BASES: With the Dodgers collecting only four hits, Manager Don Mattingly sensed his team was low on energy. “It feels like we’ve been here a long time, you know?” Mattingly said. “I’ve got a feeling it’s not just us. But I still don’t like it because I think you get bad habits like this. If you don’t play with some energy, you get bad habits. We can’t do that. You have to push yourself through this.”

UP NEXT: vs. San Diego on Friday at 1 p.m. at Peoria Sports Complex in Peoria; vs. Kansas City on Friday at 7 PDT at Camelback Ranch in Phoenix. On the air: TV: none; Radio: none.
