Phil Munroe, first baseball coach at Cal State Northridge, dies at 91

Phil Munroe, who was the first baseball coach at San Fernando Valley State, which later became Cal State Northridge, died on Saturday in Denver, according to his son, Dave. He was 91.

Munroe was the baseball coach from 1959 to 1961. He was the tennis coach at Northridge from 1973 to 1980 and also served as an assistant athletic director. He spent 30 years in the physical education department.

He is survived by three children, seven grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
