Baseball: Stephen Young throws shutout for Mission Viejo

Stephen Young is off to a terrific start pitching for Mission Viejo. He has thrown 21 scoreless innings this season while going 3-0. His latest triumph was a 6-0 victory over Mira Costa on Saturday in which he struck out three and allowed three hits.

Saugus pitchers threw consecutive shutouts earlier this week in Foothill League play, and the strong pitching continued in a 5-1 victory over Bonita. Chase Wheatcroft threw six innings of one-run ball.

Great Oak won the battle of unbeatens against Temecula Valley, 1-0. Austin Burke threw five shutout innings.

Agoura and Long Beach Wilson went into the 12th inning before Max Cauble’s walk-off single gave Wilson a 1-0 victory. It was his third hit of the game. A.J. Dean threw eight shutout innings for Wilson.

Marcus Wilson went three for three and hit a home run, but Gardena Serra was beaten by Los Alamitos, 5-3.

Warren stayed unbeaten with a 6-2 win over Bell. Alan Trejo improved to 3-0, striking out seven in five innings. Evan Holmes had three hits.

Bishop Amat defeated Palos Verdes, 2-1. Alex Garcia struck out nine. Adryan Ramirez had a two-run single.

Granada Hills Kennedy (7-1) defeated Venice, 12-0. Gilbert Hernandez struck out nine in four innings. Estevan Rodriguez had three hits and two RBIs.

Loyola defeated Torrance, 12-4. Quinn Brodey hit a grand slam during an eight-run sixth inning. The Cubs are 7-1.

Troy Conway had two hits and two RBIs in Moorpark’s 2-1 win over Taft.

Sylmar defeated South Gate, 7-1. Mark Razo (3-0) struck out eight in six shutout innings. Josh Meza had three hits.

Sierra Canyon defeated Reseda, 9-0. Seth Stone struck out five and Jake Fried went three for three with three RBIs.

Sun Valley Poly defeated San Pedro, 14-4. Tavo Marquez had three hits and two RBIs.

St. Francis defeated Walnut, 6-2. Mike Reilly and John Bicos each had two hits.

Baldwin Park scored four runs in the seventh to defeat Bishop Diego, 7-5. Sergio Flores had two hits and two RBIs.

Edison defeated Compton Centennial, 3-2, and knocked off Laguna Hills, 14-6. Dylan Sneed went five for seven. Edison is 9-3.
