Baseball: Kevin Gowdy strikes out 14, allows no hits in seven innings

When Kevin Gowdy is on, he can be unhittable. The Santa Barara senior who signed with UCLA put on quite a show on Tuesday, striking out 14 and allowing no hits in seven innings of a scoreless Channel League game against Buena.

Santa Barbara finally won the game in the eighth, 1-0, on an RBI double by Antonio Andrade. Bijan Palme was the winning pitcher in a combined no-hitter.

“Kevin was overpowering today,” Coach Donny Warrecker said.

Redondo 4, Cypress 3: In its toughest nonleague test of the season, REdondo (15-0) came away victorious, getting a game-winning RBI in the seventh from Jacob Springman. Sean Reynolds struck out seven. Jason Dicochea contributed two hits.

Huntington Beach 4, Newport Harbor 2: Nick Pratto, a transfer from Mater Dei making his first appearance of the season, hit a two-run home run in his first at-bat to lead the Oilers in a Sunset League game. Kobie Anton got the save.

Chaminade 4, St. Francis 1: Freshman Jack Whisnant allowed one hit in three innings and Cole Reibenspies and freshman Tyler Olivas each had two hits in a Mission League game.

Crespi 8, Alemany 6: RC Orozco went three for three and Chris Dehn added two hits and two RBIs for the Celts.

Saugus 9, Arlington 3: Jacob Lopez allowed three hits in six innings and struck out 10 for the Centurions. Rudy Aguilar had three hits and Matt Diaz contributed three RBIs.

Tesoro 11, El Toro 0: Jack Martini threw six shutout innings for Tesoro in the South Coast League upset. Brett Auerbach went four for four. Spencer Heinsius added three hits and three RBIs.

San Juan Hills 2, Trabuco Hills 0: Nick Hernandez threw the shutout.

Dana Hills 8, Capistrano Valley 5: Max Mircovich had two hits and three RBIs. Jeremy Ciolek added three hits and two RBIs. David Clawson had a home run. Hans Crouse struck out 10.

Gahr 9-5, Hart 3-1: Josh Haley threw five innings without giving up any earned runs in Gahr’s first-game win. In the second game, Chris Corral earned his fifth victory.

Bishop Amat 6, Gardena Serra 1: Isaac Esqueda struck out six in 5 1/3 innings in the Del Rey League victory. Torreahno Sweet and Dante Castillo had two RBIs each.

Burroughs 8, Pasadena 2: Jesse Galindo struck out seven in six innings in the Pacific League win. Justin Palafox had two hits.

Crescenta Valley 7, Hoover 2: Sophomore Trevor Beer struck out 11 in five innings and didn’t allow a hit. Adrian Damla had two doubles.

Murrieta Mesa 3, Great Oak 1: Murrieta Mesa improved to 14-4 and 4-0 in league, knocking off Great Oak ace Zack Noll.

Vista Murrieta 8, Chaparral 2: Mason Campell had two hits and two RBIs.

Beckman 7, Downey 4: Connor Fidone went three for three to lead Beckman. Sam Harline hit a home run.

Rancho Cucamonga 5, Etiwanda 1: Logan Rinehart finished with three hits and two RBIs in the Bseline League game.

Damien 10, Chino Hills 0: Matt Amrhein threw a three-hit shutout in the Baseline League game. Harrison Spohn had a double, triple, single and two RBIs.

Granada Hills Kennedy 12, Sylmar 1: Jerry Aguilar contributed three hits and three RBIs in the Valley Mission League game. Luis Gomez added two hits, including a home run. Jesus Pineda had two hits and three RBIs.

San Fernando 15, Panorama 0: Steven Villagran had two triples and two RBIs.

Palisades 10, Hamilton 1: The Dolphins picked up the Western League win behind Harrison Hart.

Carson 2, Narbonne 1: The Colts picked up the win in a Marine League opener.

JSerra 6-6, Valencia 3-8: Chase Strumpf had two hits and Davis Wendzel had two RBIs in the first-game victory. Collin Quinn struck out nine in a complete-game performance. Trace Eldridge contributed three hits in Valencia’s second-game win.

Village Christian 7, Heritage Christian 6: The Crusaders improve to 4-0 in the Olympic League.

West Ranch 6, Warren 5: Cade Spurlin, Austin Hernandez and Doug Gragg each had two hits for West Ranch.

Paraclete 3, Monrovia 2: Jacob Jablonski had two hits.
