Baseball: No. 1 JSerra rallies for 4-3 win over Brea

The opening round of the Southern Section Division 1 baseball playoffs produced plenty of drama. No. 1-seeded JSerra scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to defeat Brea, 4-3. Brady Shockey delivered the walk-off single. Royce Lewis had tied the game with an RBI single.

The Lions won without one of their best players, pitcher-first baseman Parker Joe Robinson, who injured an ankle at the prom. The Lions will play Valencia, an 11-2 winner over Thousand Oaks. Keston Hiura hit his 13th home run during an eight-run first inning. Kevin Chandler threw a complete game.

No. 2 Loyola received a complete game from Nathan Hadley to defeat Corona, 4-1. He struck out eight. Quinn Brodey had two RBIs. Loyola will face Trabuco Hills, a 6-2 winner over Esperanza. Billy Ray Surch went four for four and Cole Stanton added three hits, including a home run.

Santa Margarita defeated Mission Viejo, 8-2. Griffin Canning struck out 10 in six innings and Dillon Miyashiro had three hits. The Eagles will face Fountain Valley, a 9-1 win over Lakewood. Scott Schultz (14-0) threw six shutout innings. Brock Lundquist hit a two-run home run. Willie Aguilar hit a two-run home. JT Navarro had three hits.

Capistrano Valley defeated Mater Dei, 4-1, and will play Agoura, a 2-0 winner over Crespi.

Riverside Poly defeated Alemany, 7-3, and will face Norco, a 15-5 winner over Anaheim Canyon. Norco’s Cole Young hit his 10th home run and Ruben Castaneda went five for five. Foothill defeated Chaminade, 6-1, behind Hudson Hughes, who went three for three with two RBIs and also allowed one unearned run in six innings. He struck out seven.

A five-run first inning helped Orange Lutheran defeat Hart, 7-2. Garett King stuck out five in a complete game.

A three-run sixth inning helped Long Beach Wilson defeat Moorpark, 5-4. Marc Moroney had two hits.

Trailing, 1-0, Huntington Beach scored six runs in the fourth inning and cruised to a 10-1 win over Corona Santiago. Clint Jack had a key two-run single. Cooper Moore had two hits and two RBIs.

Edison defeated Millikan, 4-1, and will face Harvard-Westlake, a 5-0 winner over Riverside North behind a no-hitter from Jack Flaherty. Kaz Akamatsu threw a complete game for Edison, allowing four hits.
