Baseball: Pepperdine’s Aaron Brown selected in the third round of draft

Former Chatsworth High outfielder-pitcher Aaron Brown of Pepperdine didn’t have to wait long to hear his name called on the second day of baseball’s first-year player draft. He was selected by the Phillies with the 81st selection in the third round.
J.D. Davis of Cal State Fullerton was the first pick of the Astros in the third round. Other third-rounders included pitcher Wyatt Strahan of USC (Reds), shortstop Josh Morgan of Orange Lutheran (Rangers) and pitcher Trevor Megill of Loyola Marymount (Cardinals).
Edison shortstop Brian Schales was the second player taken in the fourth round by the Marlins.
Los Alamitos pitcher Jacob Nix was the first player taken in the fifth round by the Astros. Infielder Kevin Padlo of Murrieta Valley went to the Rockies in the fifth round.
In the sixth round, UCLA catcher Shane Zeile was chosen by the Tigers.
In the seventh round, Westlake shortstop Luke Dykstra went to the Braves.
