Baseball: Sherman Oaks Notre Dame is surging in Mission League

Sherman Oaks Notre Dame is surging, with 12 wins in its last 13 baseball games. The Knights pulled out a 4-3 Mission League win over Loyola on Tuesday when Logan Pollack scored from third on a Mike Wilson sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth inning to break a 3-3 tie.

The play was so close at the plate that Loyola Coach Mike Cordero was ejected for arguing afterward. He will have to miss Friday’s game at Loyola. Deandre Carter came on in the seventh to get the save for Notre Dame (20-5, 8-3), which is battling Loyola (7-2) and Alemany (7-2) for first place.

Chris Collins struck out nine in six innings. Colin Brophy had three hits and Logan Schwartz added two RBIs.

Alemany defeated Harvard-Westlake, 4-3. Alex McKenna hit a two-run home run to wipe out a 2-0 deficit. Ruben Cardenas delivered a two-run single in the fifth. Carter Yankie threw the complete game. John Thomas and Leo Kaplan had two hits apiece for Harvard-Westlake. Crespi won its first league game, 3-1, over Chaminade. Dan Silva got the victory and Matt Cassin and Chris May each hit triples.

San Dimas improved to 25-0 with an 11-1 win over Rowland. Jacob Castillo is 9-0 after picking up the win. Tommy Acuna went three for three with four RBI. Logan Muratall had three RBI.

Laguna Beach set an Orange County record with its 46th consecutive Orange Coast League victory in an 8-5 win over Calvary Chapel.

In the Big VIII League, Norco defeated Corona Santiago, 3-1. Joshua Pimentel had two hits and two RBI.

In the Del Rey League, Bishop Amat defeated St. Paul, 3-1. Isaac Esqueda struck out 11, walked none and allowed five hits. Cathedral defeated Serra, 3-2, on a walk-off hit by Diego Rodriguez. Johnnie Virgen went three for four.

In the Trinity League, Mater Dei held off St. John Bosco, 5-4. Michael Thomas threw six shutout innings, but Tyler Smith of St. John Bosco hit a grand slam in the seventh.

Beckman defeated Corona del Mar, 7-2. Austin Schell and Chase Ellett each had two hits.

El Segundo defeated Lawndale, 12-2. Jake Palmer had three hits and Lars Nootbaar hit a home run.

Devin McKesson struck out 14 in Temescal Canyon’s 8-0 win over Elsinore. He allowed one hit.

Burroughs clinched the Pacific League championship with a 4-0 win over Hoover. Danny Bustos threw a five-hit shutout. Glendale knocked off Crescenta Valley, 5-4.

Santa Barbara defeated Oxnard, 1-0, in a nonleague game. Kevin Gowdy struck out nine in six innings to outduel Antonio Gaxiola.

Village Christian defeated Heritage Christian, 7-0, to improve to 11-0 in the Olympic League.

Providence defeated New Community Jewish, 2-1. Thomas Keller threw a complete game and made the defensivej play of the game on an attempted squeeze bunt.

Baldwin Park defeated Gladstone, 3-1. Anthony Franco (6-1) threw a four-hitter and had two hits.
