Boys’ basketball: Chaminade hires Jon Palarz, adding to Mission League coaching strength

Chaminade has lured Jon Palarz from Calabasas to take over its basketball program, giving the Mission League yet another top coach.
In fact, it’s hard to believe any league in California has a better group of coaches than the Mission League.
Four of the coaches _ Russell White (Crespi), Todd Wolfson (St. Francis), Tray Meeks (Alemany), David Rebibo (Harvard-Westlake) _ have won state titles. Two others _ Palarz and Jamal Adams (Loyola) _ have won Southern Section titles. Vince Oliver (Sherman Oaks Notre Dame) played under Adams.
Palarz has coached both for private and public schools. He will become a teacher at Chaminade after spending eight years at Calabasas.
“It’s a rare opportunity to join a school with such a strong academic and athletic program,” Palarz said.
He’ll also face challenges with high-profile parents.
“Jerry Tarkanian said, ‘Unless you’re coaching at an orphanage, there’s parents,’” he said.
