Boys’ basketball: Eastvale Roosevelt gets win over Corona Centennial

The Eastvale Roosevelt duo of Matt Mitchell and Jemarl Baker proved too tough for Corona Centennial on Tuesday night.

Mitchell scored 31 points and Baker had 28 points in Roosevelt’s 81-73 win over host Centennial in a Big VIII League opener.

Jalen Hill had 26 points and Gio Nelson 21 for Centennial.

In the Baseline League, LaMelo Ball scored 33 points as Chino Hills defeated Damien, 119-84, to improve to 17-0 and win its 52nd consecutive game. Cameron Shelton scored 32 points for Damien (15-2).

Los Osos stunned Etiwanda, 74-72. Rancho Cucamonga defeated Upland, 78-59.

In the Foothill League, Saugus knocked off Hart, 73-72. Zach Phipps scored 26 points and Anthony McIntrye had 25, including 10 in the fourth quarter.

In the Olympic League, Heritage Christian defeated Village Christian, 98-89. Dillon Depina scored 25 points and Juhwan Harris-Dyson added 23 points and 11 rebounds. Jordan Starr scored 36 points for Village Christian and Jalen Riley had 21.

Calabasas defeated Oaks Christian, 80-65. Jack Roggin finished with 24 points.

Westlake defeated Newbury Park, 67-58. Drew Brackens contributed 18 points.

In the Gold Coast League, Crossroads defeated Paraclete, 63-44. Jacob Ray scored 18 points, Ira Lee 17 and Shareef O’Neal 13. Sean Larimore had 18 points for Paraclete.

In the Golden League, Highland defeated Knight, 71-60. Justen Miller had 25 points and Deshay Gipson 21. Highland is 5-0 in league.

Villa Park defeated Foothill, 58-54, to set up a Friday showdown against Esperanza. Esperanza received 30 points from Kezie Okpala in a 68-40 win over El Dorado.

Rancho Mirage defeated Desert Hot Springs, 82-54. Charles Neal scored 21 points and had eight assists.
