Boys’ basketball: Stone Spellman three-pointer gives El Camino Real victory

With time running out, Stone Spellman made a three-pointer on Wednesday night, giving El Camino Real a 58-56 victory over Beverly Hills in the quarterfinals of the Beverly Hills tournament. Brandon Russell finished with 28 points for the Conquistadores, who will face Loyola in an 8 p.m. semifinal game on Friday.
Loyola defeated Compton, 58-42, behind Stone Gettings, who finished with 16 rebounds. Long Beach Poly advanced to the semifinals with a 57-39 win over Santa Monica. Sophomore Zafir Williams scored 15 points and Jordan Dallas added 14. Poly will play Westchester in Friday’s 6:30 p.m. semifinal. Westchester defeated Cantwell-Sacred Heart, 47-44.
In a consolation game, Brentwood defeated Hamilton, 47-36. Andrew Gardiner scored 19 points.
In the Ventura County Classic, Viewpoint won the battle of Calabasas, defeating Calabasas, 58-54, in overtime. Conner Longmire had 15 points for Calabasas. Miye Oni had 17 points for Viewpoint. Ben Taufahema had 32 points in Canyon’s 59-54 win over Ventura.
Valencia received 33 points from Dakota Abbott in a 68-55 win over Oak Park. He made seven three-pointers. Westlake defeated Oxnard, 84-70. Adam Hess had 18 points. St. Bonaventure defeated Newbury Park, 35-32. Vince Klein had 17 points for the Panthers.
Friday’s championship semifinals at Royal: Canyon vs. Viewpoint, 6:30 p.m.; Westlake vs. Thousand Oaks, 8 p.m.
In the University tournament, Alex Copeland scored 23 points in Harvard-Westlake’s 91-57 win over North Hollywood. Dorsey defeated St. Monica, 70-49. Windward defeated El Segundo, 88-38.
Sierra Canyon opened with a 94-38 win over Yeshiva. Adam Seiko scored 22 points and Devearl Ramsey 17.
Santa Ana Mater Dei (4-0) advanced to the semifinals of the Corona del Mar tournament with an 85-50 win over Cajon. Rex Pflueger scored 21 points and MJ Cage 20.
In a battle of top 25 teams, Sonora defeated La Mirada, 53-51. Christian Rhodes scored 24 points and Josh Rodriguez added 19. Aashad Womack had 15 rebounds.
Chatsworth defeated Eagle Rock, 61-48. Sumeet Singh had 23 points. Buckley defeated Bishop Diego, 83-37, to improve to 5-0. Austin Butler scored 25 points and had 18 rebounds.
