Boys’ basketball: Westchester advances to Redondo tournament semifinals

Terrell Waiters made a steal and scored with just over one second left, then completed the three-point play to give Westchester a 45-42 victory over Calabasas on Wednesday in a quarterfinal game of the Redondo tournament.
The Comets will play Long Beach Poly in Friday’s 5 p.m. semifinal. Ellis Sallahudin had 22 points for Westchester. Conner Longmire finished with 20 points for Calabasas. Poly defeated Inglewood, 79-57, with Drew Buggs scoring 16 points.
The other semifinal at 6:30 p.m. will have St. John Bosco taking on Redondo. The Braves knocked off Compton, 66-55, behind a 27-point performance from Vance Jackson. Redondo defeated Gardena Serra, 77-69. Cameron Williams scored 22 points. Ian Carter led Serra with 21 points.
In consolation games, Campbell Hall defeated Hart, 75-70. Gabriel Bell-Williams scored 27 points and had 11 rebounds. Santa Monica defeated Narbonne, 75-66. Jonah Mathews scored 25 points and Spencer Freedman had 19. Shane Carney led Narbonne with 27 points.
Peninsula defeated Mayfair, 62-59. Cameron Hodge scored 23 points. Kendall Small led Mayfair with 23 points. Taft defeated Lawndale, 68-56. Darius Henderson led Taft with 21 points.
In the Alhambra tournament, University received 28 points from Cushan Allen to defeat Alhambra, 72-55. Dwight Murray added 17 points.
