Football: Sophomore Jackson Sirmon is linebacker to watch

Share

There’s a little nasty streak in sophomore linebacker Jackson Sirmon of Loyola. He doesn’t like getting blocked by linemen. That’s a good trait to have.

He had 10 tackles and one sack in Loyola’s 35-6 win over Crespi.

Sirmon is headed for first-team All-Mission League honors. He’s showing toughness, durability and versatility.

He acts like he knows what he’s doing, which should come as no surprise, since his father, Peter, is an assistant coach at USC.

Loyola is 6-1 and 2-1 in league. The Cubs get a bye week before facing Alemany on Oct. 23 in a game that will probably decide a Pac-5 Division playoff spot.

Myles Bryant also had a big game on defense with 10 tackles, a touchdown reception and an 82-yard punt return.
