After three straight losses, Clippers looking to turn the corner

The Clippers want their mojo back because somewhere along the way they have lost it.

They seem to have lost their purpose, drive and determination.

The Clippers have seven regular-season games left to see if they can find what has been missing.

“Really, we’ve got to win the rest of them,” Blake Griffin said Tuesday after practice. “Obviously you are going to say that throughout the entire season. But this is really the time when our sense of urgency needs to be at its highest.”

The Clippers have lost three consecutive games and four of their last five.

They were a .500 team in March (7-7) and already are 0-1 in April. The Clippers keep talking about turning that corner, but they have yet to do so.

“It’s kind of to the point where I’m tired of talking about it,” Griffin said. “Now I want us to really go out and do it. I need to do it.”

The Clippers get another opportunity to right things when they play the Phoenix Suns Wednesday night at Staples Center. The Suns have the worst record in the Western Conference at 23-51.

Despite their disappointing play recently, the Clippers believe they have what it takes to play at a high level.

And even if they must start the Western Conference first-round playoff series on the road, the Clippers maintain that they are confident.

“I think, honestly, the gift and the curse with us is we believe we’re good enough that we can win anywhere,” Jamal Crawford said. “Whether it’s across the world in China, if it’s in Memphis or whatever — and I’m just using that as an example — we feel like we can play anywhere.”

Franchise record?

For the fourth time, the Clippers are looking to set a single-season record for most victories in franchise history. They lost to San Antonio, Houston and Indiana when 50 wins was within reach.

They are tied with the 1974-75 Buffalo Braves for the most victories (49) in club history.

“I think we need to jump that hurdle, that 50-win hurdle,” Crawford said. “It’s always hard to win games in this league. On any given night, any team can win. So 50 wins is an accomplishment, for sure.”

Injury update

Griffin has been playing with a sore left calf, but he said it hasn’t limited his play. “If I wasn’t able to play hard and to be aggressive, I shouldn’t be playing,” Griffin said. “So, I’ll be good.”

Matt Barnes, who has a sprained left ankle, didn’t practice Tuesday but is expected to play on Wednesday night. Chauncey Billups, who has missed three games with a strained right hamstring, is not expected to play against Phoenix.
