Lawyer for Aaron Hernandez decries ‘false reports’

Citing “a relentless flood of rumors, misinformation and false reports in the media,” the lawyer for embattled New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez has issued an email defending his client.

Attorney Michael K. Fee said in a widely distributed email that a “supposedly confirmed” report that an arrest warrant has been issued for Hernandez was “exposed as untrue.”

Authorities have conducted several searches of Hernandez’s home in North Attleborough, Mass., as part of a homicide investigation, but they have not named the Patriots player as a suspect. On Monday, police searched a pond near the home but reportedly found no evidence related to the crime.

Fee said that none of the “false reports” regarding Hernandez come from official sources, and that “we appreciate the professionalism and restraint shown by the Bristol County district attorney’s office to date with regard to its public statements while its investigation is underway.”

He added: “Out of respect for that ongoing investigation, we will continue to refrain from commenting on its substance.”
