Byron Scott is one choice for Clippers’ new coach
As the Clippers ponder whether to hire Byron Scott to replace Vinny Del Negro as the team’s coach, L.A. will have plenty of information to help with the decision.
Scott has coached for 13 years in the NBA, and he has been fired three times, the most recent by the Cleveland Cavaliers after going 24-58 during the 2012-13 season.
He has a 44.4% (416-521) winning percentage.
Still, there are pros and cons to hiring Scott -- just like there is with any coach.
The pros: He led the New Jersey Nets to back-to-back NBA Finals appearances, losing to the Lakers in 2002 and to San Antonio in 2003. He coached Chris Paul during the guard’s first seasons in the NBA with the New Orleans Hornets. Scott is known to hold players accountable -- stars and role players alike.
The cons: Scott is a taskmaster, and the Cavaliers chafed under that. Players have complained that Scott runs his practices and shoot-arounds too long.
