Update: The playoffs, which haven’t been a realistic goal for Chivas USA for weeks, could become a mathematical impossibility Saturday if it loses and Vancouver beats Seattle. Chivas hasn’t won since July 28, going 0-7-2 in its last nine matches — the longest winless streak since the franchise’s inaugural season in 2005. And the team has scored just one goal in five matches this month. However, one of Chivas’ Western Conference-low seven wins came against Real Salt Lake. And with a victory Saturday, Chivas could escape the cellar, vaulting over two teams into seventh place in the nine-team conference.
