Watch two former Olympic badminton partners’ on-court fistfight

Bodin Issara and Maneepong Jongjit played as badminton doubles partners for Thailand in the 2012 Olympics. But now they are rivals, and it showed this past weekend when a fight broke out between the two while playing on opposite sides of the net at the Canada Open.

With both men already issued a warning after a verbal exchange earlier in the doubles match, Issara lunged at Jongjit, chased him onto a connecting court and punched him several times before being dragged away and held down by coaches and tournament staff.

A shirtless Jongjit was escorted off the court by Issara’s playing partner, Pakkawat Vilailak. Issara, who needed two stitches, says Jongjit hit him with a racket.

Issara was shown a black card, and the victory was given to Jongjit and partner Nipitphon Puangpuapech.

The Badminton World Federation is investigating the incident.
