Sebastien Bourdais watches his second-place trophy fall apart
You know what they say about second place -- you’re the first loser -- and Sebastien Bourdais had to be feeling like someone was playing a prank on him after he finished second in Saturday’s IndyCar Series race in Toronto.
While standing on the podium next to race winner Scott Dixon, Bourdais was handed the second-place finisher’s trophy, only to see it fall apart moments later. After watching the glass bowl bounce off the podium, a bewildered Bourdais can only look around like a deer caught in the headlights with its pants down.
The best part is when third-place finisher Dario Franchitti gestures as if to say, “keep up the fight, lad.” Bourdais then awkwardly holds up the base of his trophy to the adulation of the crowd.
At least Bourdais isn’t upset about his trophy taking a tumble -- he actually appears to think it’s kind of funny. I hate to see how a Formula One driver would react if his hard-fought hardware fell apart.
