Robbie Keane leads Galaxy past Juventus, 3-1

Landon Donovan and Robbie Keane, together again for the first time in five weeks, combined for a tie-breaking goal in the 60th minute Saturday, helping the Galaxy to a 3-1 win over Italian champion Juventus at Dodger Stadium in the second game of an International Champions Cup doubleheader.

Real Madrid beat Everton, 2-1, in the first match.

Keane, who has been nursing a hip injury, came on in the second half and 15 minutes later, after the Galaxy stripped the ball from Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal Pardo, he found himself rushing up the left wing behind the defense.

Juventus keeper Marco Storari, who also came on after the intermission, slid across to meet the threat, so Keane sent the ball across the goal mouth to Donovan in front of an open net. And Donovan didn’t miss.

Keane then closed the scoring in the 88th minute when Juventus’ Andrea Pirlo got sloppy trying to clear a loose ball back to Storari. Keane had no trouble catching up to the soft pass, then beat the keeper easily.

Omar Gonzalez got the scoring started for the Galaxy in the 36th minute, taking a short pass from Juninho at the edge of the six-yard box and beating Juventus keeper Gianluigi Buffon, who was late in charging out after the Galaxy defender.

But Gonzalez gave the goal back two minutes later when Fabio Quagliarella pushed him all over the penalty area before turning and getting off a sharp left-footed shot. Galaxy keeper Brian Rowe made a nice save, but the rebound bounced right to Alessandro Matri, who knocked it home to tie the score.

Other than that one mistake, Rowe had a solid outing in his second start in three nights in the tournament.
