Former NFL quarterback Kevin Kolb was arrested early Saturday and charged with boating while intoxicated in south Texas.

Kolb was arrested early Saturday and released hours later on $3,000 bond, according to Willacy County jail records.

Not too long ago, Kolb had shown so much promise as the Philadelphia Eagles’ backup quarterback that the team shipped longtime starter Donovan McNabb off to Washington before the 2010 season.

But Kolb was supplanted as Eagles starter by Michael Vick and was traded to Arizona in the 2011 off-season. Injuries and spotty play plagued Kolb, who was 6-8 as a starter in two years with the Cardinals.

He signed with the Buffalo Bills as a free agent in 2013 but missed the entire season after suffering a concussion -- at least his third during his seven-year career -- in August.

Kolb was released by the Bills in March and has yet to sign with another team.
