Metta World Peace takes subway to first Knicks game
Metta World Peace is anything but conventional, so it should come as no surprise that to get to his first Knicks game, he took a form of transportation that’s atypical of most millionaire NBA stars.
World Peace rode the subway to his team’s home opener on Wednesday. The F train to be exact.
The Queensbridge native used to ride that train when he was a child dreaming of playing for the Knicks at Madison Square Garden. After he was amnestied by the Lakers and picked up by the Knicks, World Peace decided to bring things full circle.
“This is something I’ve always wanted to do,” he told Newsday.
World Peace boarded the train on 21st Street and 41st Avenue, an intersection that borders the housing projects where he was raised.
The former Laker and 15-year NBA veteran was recognized by fans, and stopped to hug and shake hands of about a dozen people.
“I never thought this day would come,” he said.
