USC football: Trojans continue preparations after campus shooting

USC football players were on the practice field Thursday morning, less than 12 hours after a shooting on campus.

The Times has reported that Geno Hall, a former Crenshaw High football star, was critically injured in a shooting at a Halloween party, according to multiple law enforcement sources familiar with the investigation.

According to the report: “University officials said that the party was sponsored by the Black Student Assembly and attended by about 400 people. None of those involved in the shooting were students at USC.”

Offensive lineman Marcus Martin and linebacker Hayes Pullard played at Crenshaw High. Trojans players are not made available to the media on Thursdays.

USC is preparing for Saturday’s game against No. 2 Oregon at the Coliseum.

Asked after practice if USC football players were involved or present at that party, Coach Lane Kiffin said, “What I know, they were not. But I really don’t have enough facts on the situation to make any other comments about it. I think they’re still gathering all the information so I can’t really talk anymore about it just because of lack of information.”

Asked if he would investigate further and ask the players as a group, he said, “Well, sure. We’ll want to know all the information about it. We’ve been in meetings all morning, since 6 this morning. When the time comes, I’m sure that they’ll inform me.”
