Baseball: Garfield is trying to hold off Roosevelt

Share

It’s the final week of the regular season in City Section baseball, and there are a couple of leagues titles that need to be decided.

In the Eastern League, Garfield (7-1) has a one-game lead over Roosevelt (6-2), and the two teams are scheduled to play on Thursday night at East Los Angeles College. They won’t draw 20,000 like a football game between the two schools, but if the league title is up for grab, somebody better have a lot of hot dogs available.

In the West Valley League, Chatsworth (7-1) has a one-game lead over El Camino Real (6-2) after ECR was forced to forfeit a win over Birmingham last month. The two teams meet this week, first at El Camino Real on Wednesday, then at Chatsworth on Friday. Chatsworth can lock up the No. 1 seeding in the City Section with a victory.

Other leagues have been pretty much decided. Kennedy is headed to the Valley Mission League title. Marshall is winning the Northern League. North Hollywood has won the East Valley League. Narbonne has clinched the Marine League. Palisades is headed for the Western League title. Dorsey is winning the Coliseum League. Los Angeles is winning the Southern League. Torres is winning the Central League.

Playoff pairings will be decided on Saturday. The City Section Division I and II championship games are June 7 at Dodger Stadium.
