Pac-12, DirecTV ‘still at an impasse’

Share

There seems little chance of the Pac-12 and DirecTV coming to terms.

Conference Commissioner Larry Scott said that there have been no recent talks with DirectTV and Charter Cable officials. He also said that the conference has little wiggle room.

Neither provider offers the Pac-12 Networks.

“In the last couple months, our team reached out, but there has been no movement,” Scott said. “We’re still at an impasse. I hope the logjam will break at some point.”

Scott says the conference has little it can offer in negotiations.

“We have over 50 distributors” taking the Pac-12 network, Scott said. “If we do a different kind of deal for a newcomer, then we have to offer the same thing for everyone else.”

Asked if the conference was without negotiating room, Scott said, “I would never say there is no room. Obviously, there is very little.”

Marsh perfect

UCLA defensive end Cassius Marsh kept his touchdown-per-reception average at 100%.

Marsh, playing tight end in goal line situations, caught a one-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter Friday, giving the Bruins a 14-0 lead. He had one reception in 2012, a four-yard touchdown reception.

Goodman good

UCLA safety Randall Goforth suffered a right leg injury in the first quarter. He was replaced by freshman Tahaan Goodman, who had an immediate impact.

On his first play, Goodman jolted the ball out of the hands of Washington running back Bishop Sankey. UCLA defensive end Eddie Vanderdoes caught the ball in midair.

The turnover set up a UCLA touchdown.

Goforth returned later in the quarter.

Flag day

Twice on third down in the first half, Washington was called for penalties to extend UCLA touchdown drives. Safety Sean Parker was called for pass interference on the Bruins’ first touchdown drive. Safety Gregory Ducre was called for a facemask penalty in the second quarter.

A penalty also cost the Huskies a touchdown. Guard Dexter Charles was called for hands to the face, wiping out a 38-yard touchdown pass from Keith Price to Kevin Smith.

It shouldn’t have been too surprising: Washington entered the game ranked 119th out of 123 Football Bowl Division teams in yards penalized.

Price hurt

Washington lost Price at the end of the first half. He suffered a right shoulder injury when hit on a third-down pass.

Price was damaging the Bruins up until then, completing 10 of 18 passes for 181 yards and one touchdown.

He was replaced by redshirt freshman Cyler Miles.

Rosey moment

The Bruins’ attrition at running back gave walk-on Roosevelt Davis an opportunity. Davis had the first reception of his career, a 25-yard catch to set up a UCLA touchdown.

Davis also had a 36-yard kickoff return to set the Bruins up in good field position on another touchdown drive.
