Trojans Just Keep On Winning

I don’t know what was more mind-boggling about Reggie Bush’s Heisman Trophy winning vote -- the fact he got a record 99% of the votes or that 1% didn’t vote for him. Anyone who felt there were three better players this year in college football than Bush should permanently have his Heisman ballot taken away, even if he is a former winner.

Vince Young showed a complete lack of class -- crying because he did not win the Heisman Trophy. Contrast that to Matt Leinart, who left his own name off his Heisman ballot while voting Bush first and Young second.

I am a UCLA fan and I hate USC, but Reggie Bush is the greatest football player I have seen in the last 40 years. Vince Young will be crying again Jan. 4 after USC destroys his Texas team in the Rose Bowl.

Reggie Bush won and nearly wept.

Matt Leinart watched and got choked up.

But it was Bill Plaschke who emerged as the only true sap of the event.

With his trademark succession of profound one-sentence paragraphs and heavy-handedness, he managed to turn a deserved sign of respect between pals into a scene out of “Steel Magnolias.” Congratulations Plaschke, you’ve out-cheesed yourself once again.

“Bush rages, Leinart yawns.” What?

You’re the worst. Why don’t you take your melodramatic act to Cosmo or Women’s Wear Daily?

Let’s see, USC’s Reggie Bush wins the Heisman Trophy. UCLA’s Justin Medlock is arrested on suspicion of DUI. Hmm, wonder where I’d like to send my kid to play football.

UCLA Coach Karl Dorrell was obviously concerned when he heard the news that his kicker was involved in an alcohol-related traffic accident last weekend, but all his fears subsided when he found out that it was his field goal kicker and not his punter involved.

Oh, I get it now. It’s just a difference in coaching styles. Karl Dorrell suspends players in trouble with the law. Pete Carroll just plays them. Winning is really the only thing, right?
