Boston Red Sox legend Johnny Pesky died Monday at age 92.

According to Solimine, Landergan and Richardson funeral home, Pesky died in Danvers, Mass. No cause of death was mentioned.

Pesky will forever be a part of Fenway Park with Pesky’s Pole, the right-field foul pole, even though Pesky hit just six home runs at the ballpark. Former Boston pitcher turned broadcaster Mel Parnell came up with the name in the 1950s, recalling a game Pesky won for him with a home run around the pole.

Pesky also will remain in the hearts and memories of Boston fans as a beloved part of the team. During his 60-plus years in professional baseball, he served as a player, manager and broadcaster for the Red Sox.

“I’ve had a good life with the ballclub. I just try to help out,” Pesky said in 2004.

Pesky, a lifetime .307 hitter, set a club rookie record in 1942 with 205 hits, a mark that was finally broken by Nomar Garciaparra in 1997. He was moved to tears during an appearance at Fenway Park earlier this year when the Red Sox celebrated the ballpark’s 100th anniversary.
