Prep Basketball GIRLS : Alemany Edges Chaminade, 41-40

In the San Fernando Valley League opener for both teams, Alemany, the defending co-champion of the league, edged Chaminade, 41-40, Thursday night. Chaminade is now 6-2. Alemany shared the title with Louisville last season.
After an even first period at 10-all, Chaminade went ahead at the half, 18-16. Alemany went in front to stay by outscoring the Eagles, 17-9, in the third period. The Indians never lost the lead after that, holding onto the margin until the end.
Ilene Hauser paced the winners. The 5-7 senior, an All-Southern Section guard last season, scored 12 points. Jenny Beubis had eight points in a supporting role.
Melissa Ingells scored 13 points for Chaminade.
Alemany will face Immaculate Heart on Monday in another San Fernando Valley game while Chaminade faces Bell-Jeff on Tuesday. The first of two league showdowns between Alemany and Louisville will take place on Jan. 21 at Alemany.
