Guard Steve Armstrong scored 21 points and Mike Corridori added 18 as Agoura High overcame a dismal shooting performance both from the field and the free-throw line to beat host Harvard, 53-51, in North Hollywood Friday night.

The Chargers, 4-7, who led 27-25 at halftime, converted only 23 of their 40 free throws in the game. Their field-goal shooting was even worse. Armstrong, a 6-1 senior, hit 6 of 14 field goal attempts and Corridori hit on 6 of 19 as Agoura shot 35%.

Harvard didn’t do much better, hitting 9 of 27 shots in the second half and 19 of 42 in the game.

“It was bad,” Agoura Coach Bob LaBelle said of his team’s performance at the foul line. “We were not making the pressure free throws . . . not even our good shooters were making them.”

Agoura took the lead for good, 42-41, at the beginning of the fourth quarter on a jumper by Armstrong and increased its margin to as many as six points, 51-45, with 1:20 to play.

Sophomore Dave Reiner, who grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds, and senior Todd Stevenson led Harvard with 13 points apiece.

With the loss, the Saracens fell to 1-9.
