Girls Roundup : Ocean View Has Record Night in 100-52 Sunset Win Over Westminster

Ocean View High School set or tied four school records in during its 100-52 Sunset League romp over Westminster Thursday night at Westminster.

The Seahawks, ranked No. 2 in Orange County, established marks for most points in a game (100) and most points in a quarter (33). In addition, Michelle Chomicz had a record 12 steals, and Dana Douty tied her school mark of 14 assists.

Trina Vlachos scored 30 points on 15 of 21 shooting from the field to lead the Seahawks (5-0 in league and 15-4 overall). Vlachos keyed Ocean View’s 33-point first quarter by scoring 16.

Jeanine Battaglia had 25 points for the Lions, 0-5 in league.

In other Sunset League action:

Fountain Valley 69, Huntington Beach 33--Guard Kerri Clower scored 13 points and center Dawn Lawler added 12 to lead the Barons past the Oilers at Huntington Beach. Fountain Valley improved its league recored to 4-1 and overall mark to 12-6. Huntington Beach is 2-3 and 9-10.

Edison 54, Marina 37--Guard Michelle Hennessey scored 14 points and forward Kristen Wilson added 12 as the Chargers (3-2, 11-8) beat the Vikings at Edison. Marina (1-4, 8-11) was led by Stephanie Sabelino’s 11 points.

ORANGE LEAGUE

Western 46, Valencia 25--Guard Melanie Williams scored 18 points and Tracy Beam scored 12 as the Pioneers routed the Tigers at Placentia. Angela Granger led Valencia with 11.

Brea-Olinda 96, Magnolia 28--Carrie Egan had 17 points and Marcy Munro added 16 to lead the top-ranked Wildcats (4-0, 19-0), who recorded their 19th straight win, in Anaheim. Michelle Carter, averaging 32.7 a game, had 14 points, 15 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the Sentinels (0-4, 5-10).

Savanna 47, Anaheim 15--Center Nancy Williams scored 10 points and had 13 rebounds to lead the Rebels (2-2, 10-8) past the host Colonists (0-4, 2-12).

CENTURY LEAGUE

Canyon 53, Villa Park 41--Forward Danyelle Rogers had 17 points and 15 rebounds and center Angie Nelson had 16 points and 23 rebounds to lead the Comanches (5-3 in league) past the Spartans (1-7) at Villa Park. Villa Park’s Kelly Stephenson led all scorers with 25 points.

Foothill 64, Tustin 35--Guard Jennifer Osur scored 21 points and had 5 steals to lead the Knights (8-0, 17-3) to their ninth straight victory. Felice Geddy added 12 points and Stacy Barnes had 10. The Tillers’ records dropped to 4-4 and 9-9.

Orange 69, Santa Ana Valley 41--Orange opened up a 33-20 halftime advantage and never looked back in the game at Santa Ana.

EMPIRE LEAGUE

Loara 86, Pacifica 16--Forward Liz Eldridge scored 26 points and had 19 rebounds to lead the Saxons to a rout of the Mariners at Loara. Carolyn Osato added 20 points for Loara, and teammate Shanna Beer had 16 points and 13 rebounds.

Kennedy 57, Cypress 40--Senior center Janelle Freese scored 18 points and had 12 rebounds to lead the Fighting Irish to the win at home.

Esperanza 71, Los Alamitos 31--The Aztecs led by just 13-11 at the end of the first quarter, but out-scored the Griffins, 23-8, in the second quarter at Esperanza. Aztec guard Sharon Warmus led all scorers with 27 points. Kelli Moore’s 14 points paced Los Alamitos.

El Dorado 51, Katella 49--Golden Hawk forward Jill Matyuch’s free throw with a minute to play gave the Golden Hawks the win at Katella. Matyuch had a game-high 27 points for El Dorado. Serenda Valdez led Katella with 13 points.

FREEWAY LEAGUE

Fullerton 77, Sunny Hills 47--The first-place Indians improved their league record to 4-0 and overall record to 11-4 by routing the host Lancers. Pam Fritsch led Fullerton with 19 points and 19 rebounds. Her teammates, Vicky Silva and Sandra Williams, added 17 and 16 points, respectively.

GARDEN GROVE LEAGUE

Garden Grove 45, Rancho Alamitos 30--Kathy Lorenz had 18 points and Heather Harl chipped in 11 for the visiting Argonauts. Celeste Paquett led the Vaqueros (3-1) with 12 points. Rancho Alamitos (2-2) never got closer than eight points in the fourth quarter.

Los Amigos 32, Santiago 22--Down by one point at halftime, the Lobos employed a half-court press to open the second half and went on to outscored the Cavaliers, 21-9, at Santiago. Los Amigos (1-3) was led by Kelly Grand’s nine points. Nina Manlove paced Santiago (0-4) with nine.

SOUTH COAST LEAGUE

El Toro 59, Capistrano Valley 38--Guard Vicki Mallett scored 20 points and forward Karen Nickel added 14 to lead the Chargers (5-1, 11-5) past the Cougars at El Toro. Tina Fichmuller led Capistrano Valley with 18 points.

Irvine 51, Laguna Hills 32--The Vaqueros trailed, 10-8, at the end of the first quarter, but outscored the Hawks, 19-7, in the second quarter and never trailed thereafter. Nancy Bower had 20 points and Dana Tanikawa added 10 for Irvine. Julie Monahan had 15 for Laguna Hills.

SEA VIEW LEAGUE

Woodbridge 65, Newport Harbor 42--Sharon Lyon led the Warriors with 13 points, 15 rebounds and 7 seven blocked shots in the game at Woodbridge. The 6-1 center, suffering from a cold, played just two quarters. The Warriors had four players score in double figures. Sheri Kemper had 16 points to lead the Sailors. Woodbridge is 7-0 in league and 16-3 overall. Newport Harbor is 4-3 and 8-6.

Saddleback 49, University 34--Monica Walton scored a game-high 23 points to lead the Roadrunners past the Trojans at Santa Ana. Jean Mao led the Trojans with 10 points.

Costa Mesa 42, Estancia 35--Valerie Palmer and Joelle Edmonds each scored 10 points to lead the Mustangs (5-2, 7-8) over the host Eagles (3-4, 5-10).
