Community College Baseball : Cypress Defeats College of the Canyons : Jackle’s Double in Seventh Inning Drives Home Winning Run

James Jackle’s RBI double in the top of the seventh inning turned out to be the game-winning hit Thursday in the Chargers’ 3-2 victory over College of the Canyons in the first round of the Hancock Tournament at Santa Maria.
Jackle had two hits for Cypress (13-6), while Rene Licon went 2 for 4 and scored twice. John Reid allowed two hits in six innings to earn the victory, and Mike Schula pitched one-hit ball over the final three innings to get the save.
Cypress will play Taft today in the second round of the round-robin tournament.
In other community college action:
Golden West 6, Kings River 2--Shane Flores had two hits, including a solo home run in the top of the sixth inning, and scored three runs to lift the Rustlers to the victory in the second round of the Orange Coast/Golden West Easter Tournament at Golden West College.
Scott Rath also went 3 for 5 with an RBI and Shawn Gilbert had two hits to back the pitching of Tim Kilpatrick, who went eight innings to earn the victory. The Rustlers improve to 14-4. Aaron Pulido was the losing pitcher.
