Community College Baseball : Esquerra’s Hot Hitting Paces Cerritos Past Fullerton, 6-2

Cerritos College beat Fullerton College, 6-2, in a South Coast Conference baseball game Tuesday at Cerritos.

Bob Esquerra went 3 for 4 with one double and two RBIs to lead the Chargers’ attack.

Craig Worthington and Ever Matallanes went 2 for 4 for Cerritos, and Darrin Nelson went 1 for 3 for the Hornets. Nelson’s hit was a solo home run in the fourth inning.

Cerritos improved its record to 9-0 in conference and 21-2 overall.

In other South Coast Conference play:

Golden West 7, Compton 4--The Rustlers overcame two home runs by Compton’s Mike White to win this game at Compton.

Keith Kaub doubled in the winning run in the eighth inning for the Rustlers. Sean Gilbert went 2 for 4 for the Rustlers, and Gary Buckles (2-0) picked up the win.

Golden West improved its record to 6-3 in conference and 15-4 overall. Compton fell to 1-8 and 1-11. The Rustlers host Mt. SAC Thursday.

Mt. SAC 8, Saddleback 7--Saddleback, down 7-4 with two outs in the ninth inning, tied the game only to see Mt. SAC come back to win it in the bottom of the ninth.

Mt. SAC pushed the winning run across when Mike Balli singled with the bases loaded. Todd Hayes (5-1) picked up the win.

Mt. SAC improved its record to 4-5 in conference and 13-8 overall. Saddleback is 3-5 in conference.
