Prep HIGHLIGHTS : Simi Valley Posts 14-7 Win Over Chargers

Thousand Oaks High had to figure it had Simi Valley dead to rights.

After all, Simi Valley (5-1) had suffered two straight defeats after winning its first 18 games of the season.

The Chargers (3-2) quickly jumped out to a 2-0 lead. But Simi Valley regained its winning form by blasting back to a 14-7 victory in a Marmonte League game at home.

Simi Valley’s Eric Fischer evened the score in the home half of the first when he belted a two-run home run.

The Pioneers kept on slugging in the third inning when they scored seven runs, highlighted by Mike Hankins three-run homer. Outfielder Regan Furcolo also collected two of his four hits in the inning.

The onslaught continued into the third inning as Simi Valley scored five more runs. Chris Hale struck the pivotal blow with a grand slam, his fourth home run of the season.

Sean Harrigan (8-2) earned the win for Simi Valley.

Oak Park 8, Fillmore 3

Oak Park High scored five runs in the the fourth inning to upset Fillmore, the No. 3-ranked team in the Southern Section 1-A Division, at Fillmore.

It was the first time since Oak Park opened five years ago that the Eagles have beaten the Flashes in baseball.

Oak Park (5-1, 8-6) extended its Tri-Valley League lead to 1 1/2 games over Fillmore (3-2, 9-2).

Saugus 9, Burroughs (Ridge.) 8

Pitcher Kent Gustavson hit a bases-loaded single in the bottom of the ninth inning to give his team, and himself, a Golden League win at home.

Gustavson, a junior, pitched the final 3 innings for Saugus (4-2-1) and struck out 9 of the 10 batters he faced.

Alhambra 5, Burroughs 3

Shortstop Robbie Scott belted a three-run homer, his seventh for Burroughs, but Alhambra still came away with a Foothill League win at Burroughs (1-6).
