Despite Defeat, Mater Dei Is No. 1

Despite losing its first game of the season, Mater Dei High School remained the top-ranked team in the weekly Orange County Sportswriters’ Assn. prep baseball poll.

The Monarchs (16-1) lost to Bishop Amat, 10-4, last week but rebounded with a 10-2 victory over the Lancers on Saturday. In the featured game of the week, second-ranked Canyon (14-2-1) plays host to fifth-ranked Santa Ana (15-3) in Century League play.
