College Softball : Titan Women Sweep Long Beach

Number-one ranked Cal State Fullerton upped its overall record to 42-7 and 8-0 in the Western Collegiate Athletic Assn. with a doubleheader sweep of Cal State Long Beach, 1-0 and 5-1, Tuesday night in Mayfair Park at Lakewood.
In the opener, Fullerton won in the 10th inning with the help of international tie-breaking rules.
If a game is tied after nine innings, the rules state a runner must start the 10th inning at second base. Robin Gooden started at second for Fullerton, and was sacrificed to third by catcher Maridee Richards. Gooden then scored on a Valerie Van Kirk sacrifice fly.
Debbie Mygand (20-3) went the distance for the win.
In the second game the Titans were led by Susan LeFebvre (19-4), who allowed one run, and struck out five.
In Community College action:
Santa Ana 7, Santa Monica 3: The Don’s Chris Makimoto, who has allowed only one earned run this season, earned her 13th win in a nonconference softball game at Santa Monica.
Makimoto (13-1) struck out four and gave up three unearned runs in the game. Santa Ana (28-2) scored four runs in the first inning off one hit. The Dons had only four hits on the game but took advantage of 12 walks.
