Community College Baseball : Kaub’s Home Run Paces Golden West’s 6-2 Victory

Keith Kaub’s three-run home run paced Golden West College to a 6-2 win Tuesday over host Saddleback in South Coast League junior college baseball action.

Kaub’s home run was in the sixth inning when the Rustlers had a 2-1 lead. The Rustlers had scored two in the fourth on a leadoff walk, an RBI single and a sacrifice fly by Scott Rath.

The Gauchos scored first in the second inning, which began with a walk to Todd Ingelhart. He was sacrificed to second and doubled home by Craig DeVolk. Saddleback had four hits, led by Steve Nichols’ double and single.

John Martin was the winning pitcher. He gave up two runs and three hits in five innings. John Sinclair, who threw three innings in relief, took the loss.

In other junior college baseball action:

Orange Coast College 23, Mt. SAC 11--The Pirates (7-8, 12-14) had eight runs in the third inning to earn the win at home. Larry Cratsenberg, who singled to begin the inning, scored when Dave Rolland tripled. Gene Roumimper added a two-run home run. Then Rob Gibbs singled, Steve Kraiss was hit by a pitch and Paul Ellison singled in Gibbs. Mark Fryan singled in Kraiss. Cratsenberg, in his second appearance of the inning, singled home Ellison, and Rolland singled in Fryan and Cratsenberg.

Cratsenberg was 5 for 6, with one RBI. Rolland was 5 for 7, with five RBIs, and Gibbs was 5 of 6 with four RBIs.

Mark Stomp (5-4) allowed 10 hits in five innings for the win.

Cypress 23, Compton 3--Mark Baca had a three-run home run in the third inning to lead the Chargers. Compton had led after a home run in the second inning. The Chargers had 24 hits off three Compton pitchers. Anthony Moreno was 3 for 3, had one RBI and he scored twice for the Chargers. Baca went 2 for 2, had four RBIs, three stolen bases and scored four times. Howard Farwell (2-0), who struck out one, got the win. Cypress is 8-6 in league and 18-9 overall.

Santa Ana 16, Fullerton 7--The Dons won at Fullerton.
