Petrone Paces Chapman Women to Softball Sweep
Sheri Petrone hit two home runs Sunday to lead the Chapman College softball team to a nonconference doubleheader sweep of Stanford, 5-2 and 11-0, at Hart Park.
Petrone’s first homer came with a runner on in the sixth during a four-run Panther inning. Diane Blankenship (6-11) was the first game’s winning pitcher.
Panther pitcher Pam Bell (5-10) shut out the Cardinal (2-22) in the second game. Bell was helped by Petrone’s solo homer in the first inning. That hit capped a three-run inning for Chapman.
The Panthers improved to 21-38 overall. They’ve won 11 of their last 12 games.
