Garden Grove League : La Quinta Beats Bolsa Grande Again

La Quinta High School scored nine runs in the bottom of the sixth inning Friday to rally from a 6-3 deficit to defeat Bolsa Grande, 12-6, in a Garden Grove League game at La Quinta.

It was La Quinta’s second win over the Matadors in three days. Wednesday, the Aztecs clinched the league title by beating Bolsa Grande, 15-1.

La Quinta had seven hits in the bottom of the sixth, including a two-run double by Tom Brewer.

Tom Nguyen led the La Quinta offense by going 3 for 4 with two RBIs, Jim Ingram was 2 for 4 with two RBIs and Jim Dunn went 2 for 2. Losing pitcher Tony Beall (4-3) was 2 for 3 for Bolsa Grande.

Jim Boren (5-0) pitched three innings of relief to get the win for the Aztecs.

In Garden Grove League action:

Los Amigos 9, Santiago 6--Santiago blew a 3-0 lead and lost to the host Lobos in a game delayed for 10 minutes because of a bench-clearing brawl in the sixth inning.

Los Amigos scored eight times in the third to take an 8-3 lead. The big hit in the third was Scott Soukup’s two-run single.

Kenny Luckham (5-3) went the distance to get the win for Los Amigos. Bob Mendoza took the loss.

Soukop went 2 for 4 with three RBIs and Ralph Ramirez went 2 for 3 to improve his average to .530.

Garden Grove 6, Rancho Alamitos 1--The Argonauts scored twice in the first, third and sixth innings to win at home. Garden Grove catcher Jerry Canada (1 for 3, two RBIs) doubled home two runs in the first inning. Shortstop Mark Kiefer was 2 for 2 with two RBIs and two stolen bases. Kiefer leads the Argonauts with 24 RBIs this season. Pitcher Keith Mowdy (4-4) struck out nine and walked two.
