Northridge Wins, 3-0, on Slaten One-Hitter
Kathy Slaten pitched a one-hitter and struck out 12 as Cal State Northridge defeated the University of Akron, 3-0, in the NCAA Division II softball championships Friday at Northridge.
The second-seeded Matadors (60-18) play top-seeded Stephen F. Austin (Texas) today at 1:30 p.m. in the double-elimination tournament. The loser plays again at 3:30 p.m. against the winner of this morning’s game between first-round losers Sacred Heart and Akron. The championship game is Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
Slaten (39-10), an All-American, allowed only a fourth-inning double by Kathie Graf.
