City Baseball Playoffs : Granada Hills Triumphs, 9-4

Defending champion Granada Hills High School scored six runs in the fourth inning, three on Scott Stewart’s bases-loaded triple, to defeat El Camino Real, 9-4, in the first round of the 4-A division City baseball playoffs.

In Tuesday’s quarterfinals, Granada Hills will meet Narbonne, which came from behind to beat Sylmar, 11-8.

In other 4-A action Friday, North Hollywood beat San Fernando, 4-3, Grant got past Monroe, 6-1, San Pedro topped Fairfax, 10-1, and Banning defeated Cleveland, 8-3.

In the quarterfinals, North Hollywood will face No. 1-ranked Chatsworth, which beat Gardena, 4-3, on Thursday, and San Pedro meets Grant.

In the 3-A division, No. 1-ranked Venice got three RBI’s each from Colin Franker and Mike Sanders and beat Manual Arts, 8-7. The Gondoliers (21-6) will meet Franklin, a 10-9 winner over Huntington Park, in the quarterfinals.

In other 3-A action, Los Angeles defeated Lincoln, 8-3, Hamilton shut out Bell, 3-0, Ken Clegg of South Gate threw a two-hitter to beat Marshall, 2-0, and Westchester trounced Dorsey, 15-1.

Also, Palisades advanced to a quarterfinal game against Washington with a 7-4 win over Roosevelt. Washington beat Eagle Rock, 6-3.
