Mater Dei Summer Tournament Begins

Ocean View High School, with four starters returning from a team that advanced to the Southern Section 5-A division championship game last season, is the top-seeded team in the Mater Dei summer basketball tournament which begins Thursday.

The 16-team tournament also features Santa Monica, which won the Bosco Tech summer tournament and was runner-up in the LA Summer Games. Games are played on four consecutive days with the championship game scheduled for 9 p.m. Sunday.

Admission is $2 for adults and $1 for students. The first-round pairings:

9 a.m.--Estancia vs. Bosco Tech; 10:20--Santa Monica vs. Santa Ana Valley; 11:40--Pius X vs. Los Amigos; 1 p.m.--Ocean View vs. Dominguez; 3:40--La Quinta vs. Damien; 6:20--LB Poly vs. Westminster; 7:40--Santa Clara vs. St. Anthony; 9--Mater Dei vs. Camarillo.
