Arkeilpane Named to Fullerton Postion

Robert J. Arkeilpane has been named to a newly created position of assistant athletic director for development at Cal State Fullerton.

Arkeilpane, 26, previously served as the director of special projects for the State University of New York at Buffalo and was color commentator on the school’s football games.

Cal State Long Beach volleyball Coach Dixie Grimmett, who coached the 49er women’s teams for the past 13 years, has resigned. Men’s Coach Ray Ratelle has been appointed as the interim women’s coach.

Ratelle has coached the 49er men for four seasons, leading the team to the NCAA playoffs in 1983-84.

In addition, Brian Gimmillaro, former girls’ coach at Cerritos’ Gahr High School, has been hired as an associate head coach.

The Gladiators won Southern Section 3-A championships in 1979 and ’80 and the State Division 1 championship in 1984.

The Golden Hill Little League 13-year-old All-Stars, from Fullerton, will be playing for the Southern California Little League senior-minors championship at 5 tonight at Fountain Valley High School. They will meet the winner of Thursday night’s game between Blythe and Hacienda Heights.

Golden Hill is the only undefeated team remaining in the double-elimination tournament, and if it should lose tonight, it will have a second chance to win the area championship Saturday. The area winner advances to the Western States Tournament at Fresno Wednesday, while the winner of that tournament advances to the Junior Division World Series beginning Aug. 13 at Taylor, Mich.
