John Boragno, a former assistant coach at Cal State Northridge, has been appointed head basketball coach at Western New Mexico University.

He succeeds Greg Graham, who resigned this summer to accept an assistant coaching position at San Jose State. Graham led Western New Mexico to an 18-5 record last season.

However, the school was ineligible for the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference title and postseason playoffs because it was on a one-year probation imposed by the league and the NAIA.

Boragno previously served as an assistant at Cal State Bakersfield and as head coach at Cerro Coso Community College in Ridgecrest.

Boragno said he planned to retain graduate assistants Chris Mowry and Chuck Hood to help with the Mustang basketball program.
